Social issues addressed by Sasak Satu Swara

Poverty is driving away valuable human resources from the region.

In poor areas such as West Nusa Tenggara Province, where Lombok is located, where Sasak Satu Swara operates, many people are forced to migrate to other countries in order to support their families due to lack of access to adequate education.

Many women living in rural areas such as Lombok have migrated to Saudi Arabia ( About 1.5 million people by 2014). The problem is that the protection and rights for women there are not fully established, and many Indonesians who migrate as domestic workers are poorly educated, which leads to a high rate of sexual harassment.

On the other hand, many of the men work deep in the palm oil forests of Malaysia, but due to informal employment, they are not in a position to give back to their homeland and have to resort to working for low wages.

Vision

Creating Millennials to Work in the Community through Education

Encourage rural development by providing quality education. As a key to rural development, we will provide Lombok's youth with the tools and skills they need to achieve economic independence.

Enrollment Rate

Primary education enrollment rate

Primary education enrollment rate in Indonesia is 85% in Indonesia

Secondary Education Enrollment Rate

On the other hand, secondary education enrollment rate is 65%. in urban areas.

In rural areas such as Lombok, the enrollment rate is as low as 52%.

The enrollment rate for higher education is even lower than for secondary education. This is due to the fact that primary and secondary education is compulsory and therefore free, while higher education is paid for. In rural areas, parents working for low wages cannot afford the cost of higher education, making it very difficult for them to go to college.

The impact of COVID-19 on poor communities

Lombok, the island where Sasak Satu Swara was established, is located in the West Nusa Tenggara Province of Indonesia, next to Bali. In addition to the damage caused by the 2018 Lombok earthquake, COVID-19 has caused a drop in revenue from tourism, the main industry in the region, making it one of the most economically distressed regions in Indonesia.

levi who is a founder of sasak satu swara

        Levi [M. Khulaifi].

        Levi

Levi [M. Khulaifi] is the President and Founder of Sasak Satu Swara Foundation. He is 30 years old and originally from Lombok Island.

Why did start Sasak Satu Swara?

Many children are unable to complete their schooling due to poor economic conditions in their families.

The founder, Levy, worked as a tour guide and lawyer in Lombok and taught English, culture and geography to underprivileged local children when he had time. While he was fortunate enough to receive a scholarship to graduate from law school, he saw children who were unable to finish their studies due to their families' poor economic conditions.

faith angels ministry founder Andrew and children

Many children in this region have to move from one country to another for work when they grow up. They are unable to support their children because they cannot find work locally, so they migrate abroad, a practice that is repeated from generation to generation. The situation is even worse in this region, where tourism is the main industry, because of COVID-19.

"In September 2020, we will establish Sasak Satu Swara, an NGO that will provide free education."

        students at sasak satu swara

In September 2020, we started to take action to establish Sasak Satu Swara, a non-governmental organization (NGO) that will provide free primary and higher education, raising funds through Airfunding. We raised funds through Airfunding and are now in the process of establishing a school with the money raised. We are committed to providing quality education to the underprivileged children in this area. The school aims to provide the children of the area with the necessary and appropriate education free of charge so that they can get better jobs. As a result, their further children can also be educated and the cycle of "getting educated" continues. He sees educating the children of the community as a way to contribute to Lombok's economic development.

Thoughts on Sasak Satu Swara, the founder

"The reason we are here is to help someone else who needs our help."

        sasak satu swara founder levi

Thanks to a scholarship, our founder Levy was able to go to college and study law. Before COVID-19, he was a volunteer tourist guide. All the children in his community loved to listen to him talk about geography and other topics.

As he volunteered to teach English to the children, he learned the following lessons "Life is about sharing, and the reason we are here is for someone else who needs our help." That is why he decided to fulfill his mission and started raising funds to build a school where children and youth in the community can receive free education.
