Hello, This is Maria Luisa T. Mabanglo, 58 years old, from the Philippines.

We came from the informal sector (my husband is just a jeepney driver and I'm just selling peanut butter when we have some money as capital).

Mother of my only son, Joshua T. Mabanglo, he was born premature (7½ mos.) And he was 2 years old when he was diagnosed with congenital nystagmus (both eyes and his right eye has a cataract) that affects his reading capabilities.

Despite his condition, he continues his studies, and by the grace of God, he graduated last April 2020 (still without ceremony because of the pandemic) from Senior High School (Humanities and Social Sciences). He's now 21 years old, and still want to pursue his chosen course in college which is Bachelor of Arts Major in English.

Cataract Surgery and Thorough Eye Examination

His latest eye check-up was 2016 and his opthalmologist recommended us to a retinal eye specialist for further examinations. But because of our financial difficulties, it did not happen.

Although both of his eyes had myopia due to his nystagmus, his right eye had a cataract that worsens his vision. And his last doctor also suggested to us that he should undergo Cataract Surgery as soon as possible to at least improve his vision.
