Save the Mexican-Japanese Association

¡HI!

We are the Asociación México Japonesa A. C. (Mexican-Japanese Association A.C) and our only headquarters is located in Mexico City. Following, let us tell you a little more about it.

Our story began a little after the Second World War, because of the circumstances, a group of Japanese people found themselves leaving their country.

The Japanese immigrants who came to Mexico created the Asociación México Japonesa Asociación Civil (AMJ) as they wanted to have a meeting place for both themselves and future generations called Nikkei who are their descendants. This would allow them as a community to preserve their traditions and precepts. Over the years, this community realized that it was positive to share and disseminate Japanese culture with Mexican people for a better understanding between cultures.

Since then and until today the AMJ has become a place where activities are developed that serve as a bridge for the best coexistence between Mexican and Japanese culture.

The creation of the AMJ was possible thanks to the support of the Japanese community of that time and especially to the great contribution of "Mr. Sanshiro Matsumoto", who donated this enormous land to build the structure of the AMJ and which was his own property. In 2006, a statue of his image was erected at his facilities as a commemorative symbol and thanks for his generous contribution. To date   he accompanies us with this mission.

Over the years, the AMJ has grown much more in terms of its facilities, new areas have been opened and it continues to evolve. We currently have: The AMJ Manga Museum,   Gymnasium, Tennis Courts Olympic Pool,   AMJ Japanese School, WAVIA Japanese Market that offers original products from Japan.

In order to make Japanese traditions well known, AMJ organizes Festivals every year, where thousands of people attend!

Gastronomy is a very big part of the cultural tradition of a country. From the beginning AMJ has cultivated through its restaurant (the oldest in Mexico City!) a gastronomic culture. It has always taken care of its tradition and we offer high quality in each dish.

Why do we need your support? How would it help us, what would you help us for?

Unfortunately, because of the contingency for Covid-19, the AMJ is experiencing a great economic crisis since, it has always generated income with the organization of various cultural and recreational activities, as well as gastronomic ones.

Due to the closure of all activities to contain the massive contagion, the income was reduced to a minimum and unfortunately they do not cover even basic expenses such as the payment of taxes and public services, in addition, 100 families depend on the Association, from Mexicans and Japanese and for which, including the Institution itself; We have been trying to keep afloat since these last few months when massive activities to contain the virus started.

The AMJ in its responsible judgment cooperated with the regulations that were issued in order to contain the massive contagion, but unfortunately it has also been badly affected in its finances.Consequently, we found ourselves calling for help and appeal to your generosity and philanthropy, because at this moment we have nothing left but to ask for the support of all of you.
