Story
Virtual Lab
Virtual Lab aims to facilitate student learning.
Idea
Adrian Popescu, a co-founder of Virtual Lab, is a professor at a university in Romania. Over time, Adrian has seen that certain theoretical and purely graphic explanations are not sufficient for students (who nowadays are gamification oriented) to understand quickly and well enough.
That's how we started Virtual Lab, an e-learning platform that focuses on practical training and laboratory work, offering a variety of academic subjects across all age groups. Through this approach, Virtual Lab aims to ease the learning process by involving students in practical activities carried out in a virtual laboratory using technologies such as 3D, Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, and gamification. The platform offers courses in the fundamental and technical fields of engineering with specific themes for the university and pre-university education environment.
Virtual Lab focuses on helping students grasp the concepts they will need to know to perform well in their class, through a variety of courses in the following fields (not an exhaustive list):
- Mechanics;
- Calculus;
- Algebra;
- Molecular physics;
- Electricity and Magnetism;
- Energetics;
- Fluid mechanics;
- Electronics;
- Electrotechnics;
- Quantum physics;
By the simplicity of the approach, but the complexity of the provided notions, this method will be preferred by students who want to change the way they learn.
Who is it for?
Courses will be achieved on different levels of difficulty depending on the level of studies. Each course will be structured in 10 interactive lessons and each lesson will be accompanied by a virtual laboratory. We take a unique and innovative approach to teaching that helps students connect with the subject matter they need to master.
Virtual Lab also comes in support of senior high school students who want additional class preparation, as well as exam preparation, or university entrance exams.
Why Virtual Lab
Virtual Lab emphasizes laboratory work and practice and approaches fewer common topics in the online environment. Using 3D, Virtual Reality, and Augmented Reality technologies, these courses are designed to be taken in a manner that can’t be covered in class. By the simplicity of the approach, but the complexity of the provided notions, interactive learning will be preferred by students who want to change the way they learn.
Virtual Lab is focused on technical areas and in this way, we concentrate in one place a variety of academic subjects in the technical field. The price is affordable so that each student can access all the resources on the platform by purchasing a monthly or annual subscription.
Team Background
Adrian has over nine years of teaching experience in a public university. The professional activity started as Assistant Professor in 2011, and since 2017 he has been a lecturer. Currently, he is the coordinator of the Industrial Logistics specialization for the bachelor's and master's degree programs. Communication and entrepreneurial skills were developed during the teaching and scientific activity being involved in various research projects in education and startups. Adrian holds several degrees: a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering, an M.A, and a B.A in Robotics. With a broad vision of the classical way of teaching, the teachers in our team have devised a new approach to the online learning process, based on 3D, Virtual Reality, and Augmented Reality technology will help students understand and learn easier.
The need for funding
We plan to launch Virtual Lab when we have 10 full courses. Each course consists of 10 interactive lessons and 10 labs. The reason we raise funds is that we cannot cover the expenses for creating the graphics inside the courses and creating the 3D laboratory interface. These activities must be contracted.
Budget
The total budget for this stage is $ 10,000, of which $ 8,000 will be used to create the interactive part of the courses, and $ 2,000 to develop the virtual lab interface.
