Yoga mats for Youth

Hi everyone!

Since I began working with Elonwabeni at the beginning of the South Africa COVID lockdown, I've been advocating and making attempts to do daily yoga with the children of the shelter and of the children's home.

Elonwabeni is taking good care of the children and is always going the extra mile to ensure that they have a good education as well as all of their basic needs provided for.

Children deserve the very real benefits of a daily yoga practice

These children come from backgrounds that include some harsh realities of which I myself will never know. Working with these children on a daily basis has revealed to me the amount of scarring each of them have undergone. Even so they are still bright and positive about life in the ways they know how to be.

This has proved to be a challenge and success rates dropped after the first two months. These children deserve the very real benefits of a daily yoga practice however they don't understand how much healing a yoga practice will bring them.

Support each child to have their own yoga mat

My milestone is to leave behind a strong memory and practice of yoga in the hearts of these children so that once I am no longer around they can still receive the therapeutic benefits that a constant yoga practice has to offer. Self regulation and awareness from a young age being some key benefits.

I believe that if each child has their own mat it will make a big difference in how they feel about doing yoga and it will enable them to do postures as well as sequences that involve sitting or laying down which they currently cannot do.
