My name is Andrea Valenzuela. I live in Guatemala City. I am a volunteer of the AMANECER AZUL, a Guatemalan NGO. During the last 4 years, I have participated in different activities that they carried out.
Children in rural areas of Guatemala
In the rural areas of Guatemala, for many children the only reality they know is how they could live day by day, with few economic resources they commonly have.
If you ask a child who lives on a farm about what he wanted to be when he grows up, he will answer you: "Farmer" because it is the only thing they know, and it is not bad, but by leaving their community they can discover that they have access to seek new opportunities to get ahead and make their dreams come true, such as being a lawyer or a doctor, and then return to support their community with better academic preparation.
We want to take them on a cultural tour to Guatemala City.
We seek to have a cultural tour of Guatemala City, so that they know and have a unique experience and expand their vision by visiting places such as the zoo, an amusement park, the Historical Center of the country, and the State University.
This is an educational and playful motivation so that they can set goals and fight for their dreams. But, above all, it is so that they can experience that the world offers them many opportunities beyond the reality they know, beyond their community.
The closest plan
By February 2021 we want to share this plan with 30 children who live in the rural area of Lake Atitlán, located in the Department of Sololá, in Guatemala, which is located 140 kilometers from the capital city.
How we will use the funds
With the funds, the transportation payments are made from their community to Guatemala City, tickets to the Zoo, the IRTRA Recreational Center, food and lodging for the children when they are in the capital city.
