Food relief and feeding program

I am Reneza Hingpit. Residing in Batuan, Bohol Philippines.

My hostel was closed due to tourism shut down

I manage a hostel in Panglao Island Bohol. With the closure of tourism in the whole country, my business was first to stop its operation. I’ve waited for 6 months for the hope that tourism will slowly open up by October 2020. Sadly, the modified general community quarantine continues until November 30 and could continue till end of this year. Still no sea and air travels allowed. Tourism is still dead.

We've organized food relief activities for the last 6 months

For the last 6 months of lockdown, the hostel together with friends, have organized food relief activities for our neighbors and fellow Boholanos. This includes giving basic needs like rice, vegetables, cooking oil, dried fish and spices.

The feeding program for kids

Then we do feeding programs for kids and if supply are enough adults can eat too. We prepare snacks like spaghetti, rice vegetable soup, sweet sticky rice, vegetable balls, pancakes, cocoa porridge, vegetable burger, fruit salad and bread. We do the relief once a week ideally on Saturday afternoon. We are now on our 20th week.

Due to uncertain future, we would be facing food shortages

As I see this whole situation will get worst in my island if tourism will not open soon since tourism is the first main source of our income. Our hopes of going back to normal is getting blurry and so uncertain everyday. In short, we will soon be empty financially and go starve. The government is doing its part but not enough to provide our basic need in the table which is RICE!

Help me to continue supporting my workers and community

As someone who’s doing hostel business for 5 years, I feel the need to help my workers, my friends, my neighbors and fellow Boholanos. My financial sources are running empty. At some point I feel the need to stop helping and just focus on myself and family but can’t handle the thought of kids going to starve.

With this, I am humbly asking your help for me to continue the feeding program and hopefully to weather this pandemic and see light at the end of the tunnel. I know that everywhere in the world now is suffering from this pandemic. But I do believe in the goodness of humanity and the spirit of giving and sharing still prevails. Food is not a privilege, it is a right!
