Help our NGO reduce deforestation & conserve the environment

Hi everyone,

My name is Oliver Mwenda. I’m from Morogoro Tanzania, Eastern Africa.

The Bamboo Innovation and Nature Preservation Organization (BINAPO)

I’m a project manager at Bamboo Innovation and Nature Preservation Organization (BINAPO). The organization was established in 2018, to empower communities to conserve and preserve the environment, in response to the increasing number of environmental and natural resources problems and climate change.

Environmental degradation in Tanzania

A majority of Tanzanians live off the land – what grows from its soil, and the species that live on it. But these resources are scarce. Today, a number of problems are obstructing environmentally sustainable development in the country. A majority of Tanzanians rely on wood and agricultural residues for their energy needs and other needs, causing deforestation and environmental degradation.

The problem, of course, doesn’t stop there. Deforested areas no longer provide a home for wildlife – leading to biodiversity loss – and are also susceptible to soil erosion.

We are promoting the use of bamboo as a hardwood alternative

Bamboo Innovation and nature preservation Organization (BINAPO) ought to reduce environmental problems, severe pressure on forest and preserve natural resources by; Conserving forest biodiversity, Promoting the use of renewable natural resources, Promoting the use of bamboo as a hardwood alternative.

To reduce existing pressure on the forest, we are promoting the use of bamboo as a hardwood alternative to make different products including furniture, baskets, briquettes, indoor decorations, and others.

To make this more effective, we have established a training center to teach our community members especially unemployed youths and women how to make these products themselves so that they will use this opportunity as their income source.

Support us to rent a space for bamboo workshop

Currently, we don't have a place for our own workshop we are using our partner's place as a workshop and training place.

We would like to rent a place of our own where the community groups can use it as a workshop.

We have planned to have the place ready by February 8, 2021.

The rent fee is $250 per month and the minimum term is six months making a total of $1,500.
