Installing laser beams around the perimeter of our school.

I am the principal of Willie Theron Primary School. 

Our school is situated in De-Aar, Northern Cape, South Africa . Our community makes a living from social grants. Most of our parents do not have an income.

Our pupils are mostly from a disadvantaged community. Our school accommodates pupils from Gr R  to grade 7. The schools have been declared a full service school and is in the process to be adjusted to accommodate learners with physical disabilities. The average income per family is less than R 500-00, and in some households even less than R200, per week. What complicates matters further is the fact that most of our pupils come from single parent families or are nurtured by an elder (Granny or Aunty).  We face tremendous challenges to provide the basic educational needs for our pupils, but despite all the odds against us, we strive to be amongst the best.

We serve a disadvantaged community with little financial resources, but are willing to do so with pride. Burglary, larceny and vandalism occur frequently.

Learners are exposed to drug and substance abuse – dagga in most of the cases. Some learners lack basic literacy and numeracy skills. Lack of parental involvement is affecting the academic standard. There is poor work ethic amongst learners.

Almost every other night out school are vandalised and malicious damage are at the order of the day. Our fence are totally stolen at the back side of the school and this make access control during the evenings very difficult. 

We are in need of funds to built a solid brick wall around the school, but for now R30 000 to ensure laser beams as security measure around the perimeter of the school. This is a first step to minimise the burglaries and  trespassing.
