Story
Nice to meet you.
We are Solidaridad sin Limites (Solidarity without limits) Foundation, and Non-profit organization from Colombia, dedicated to bring substantial impact on people's lives and thus change the world. So far, we’ve helped more than 20,000 people to get free health care in Colombia.
Our mission is to provide free healthcare in remote areas of Colombia. We provide free sessions and medical care for the most vulnerable children, pregnant women and elderly that don’t have access to medical care or facilities.
We truly believe that small actions are able to change the world.
“If you are able to be a part of the change with just one simple action, you should take action”. Based on this vision, we support health expeditions three or four times a year in areas where medical care is not available at all.
In Colombia, the health care system is inadequate, and one in two of the population, about 25 million people, do not have access to adequate health services.
Many children, especially those between the ages of 0 and 4, suffer from chronic malnutrition.
The goal of Solidaridad sin Limites is to provide safe access to health care for those who do not have access to social infrastructure, and to empower them with the knowledge to take care of their own health.
Colombia is the home for more than 50 million people and its GDP per capita is $6,667 USD.
Colombia is a country that has recently been experiencing growth in different areas, but the disparity in the economic and health situation between urban and rural areas shows that there is still much to improve.
The percentage of the Colombian population living in poverty was 17.5% in 2019 and is expected to rise further. While this rate downs to 12.3% in urban areas, in rural areas the rate increases up to 34.5%.
The situation regarding healthcare coverage experiences the same disparity. While healthcare coverage reaches 100% in Bogota, in a remote rural area like Amazon State, only 2% of the population benefits from the health coverage system.
Solidaridad sin Limites is a Colombian foundation chaired by Paula Andrea Roldan Piedrahita.
Paula worked for 11 years at the Polytechnic University in Antioquia as a specialist in judicial investigations and implemented important projects such as founding a company called Forensic Institute.
The creation of the idea of Solidaridad sin Limites was inspired by one sentence of her own daughter.
The sentence she told, "Everyone in this world lives to help others," made Paula realize that the meaning of human existence is to "help each other”. This inspired Paula to think “I could change the world with my small action to help someone, I should do it immediately.”
Solidaridad sin Limites was born as a means to that end.
Solidaridad sin Limites, founded in December 2014, was officially established as a Foundation and Non-Profit Organization (NPO) on March 28, 2018.
Currently, more than 80 volunteers from different fields of expertise are affiliated with the foundation. They contribute their knowledge and experience to provide medical and personal care to people and animals living in remote areas of Colombia.
To date, more than 12,000 patients have been treated, more than 4,400 children have been given toys and gifts, and more than 7,800 people have been given clothing.
On a typical mission to a remote area, in addition to the volunteer staff, all the needed equipment and supplies have to be transported every time. Once we arrive at our destination, we set up a field hospital where all nearby families receive free medical care.
We also provide clothing, human rights education, and workshops to enable people to live self-sufficient lives, as well as animal healthcare.
We provide support mainly in remote areas where ambulances cannot reach (especially in areas with indigenous peoples) and in areas where medical facilities are far away and cannot be reached after walking for hours.
Future tasks include gathering sufficient resources for expedition support missions and studying ways to transport volunteers and equipment to remote areas.
Currently, donations are the main source of funds, so it is very difficult to stably cover transportation costs, materials, equipment, and maintenance costs for the headquarters.
From December 13th to 16th, on 2019, Solidaridad sin Limites traveled to San Jose del Guaviare in La Guajira to provide free medical care to the indigenous community. Thirty-five volunteers helped 800 people and 150 animals, and part of the transportation costs were donations in Airfunding.
In October 2019, we headed to the Choco area with 30 volunteer doctors to provide free medical care to indigenous peoples. Part of the expenses were covered by donations in Airfunding as well, and we were able to help about 1,000 people.
On a daily basis, we collect used clothing in good condition to donate it to people who have been damaged by disasters such as fires and floods. Also, one Sunday of every month, we visit the Divine Providence home, to support 45 mothers who have been sexually abused during adolescence and have been victims of human rights abuses. We hold workshops on psychology, recreation, etc. with mothers with children under the age of five, and teach them to live financially independently.
With $10, you can help us provide healthcare to 10 people every month. Wouldn’t you like to take such small action to change the world with us?
Thank you very much for your support!
