Every Child Deserves Education

Hello everyone,

Syriel is a first grade student of Balangobong/San Pablo Elementary School, Binalonan, Pangasinan, Philippines. She is seven years old. Her parents work as laborers in a farmland.

Syriel parents earn a very meager income to raise their family with her other siblings. Syriel parents struggle for their daily needs just so their children can go to school and have an education.

Due to COVID-19, Syriel can't go to school

The dawning of Covid - 19 altered the life of Syriel. Right now she can't go to school because of the pandemic. She is now provided with modules which the Department of Education provides for remote learning.

Like Syriel other students are provided too with printed learning modules where the school distributes to parents weekly for children to answer at home. Right now, the school has 338 school children.

Painstaking modules preparation, the effort and cost

Producing modules for school children entails a lot of sacrifice on the part of the school. The teachers led by the school principal painstakingly prepare the modules printing contents and binding these weekly. The hard part is the production of materials itself.

Weekly, the school uses at least 27 reams of bond papers for 5 subjects in different learning areas. One ream of bond paper costs 249 pesos around 5 USD. when converted. For 7 grade levels the costing of bond papers weekly totals to 6,723. In a month, multiplied in 4 weeks totals to 26,892. In a year, bond papers alone costs 268,920 thousand pesos or less than 6,000 USD. The school has a dozen of printers but as we all know printers have certain limit to print and eventually wear off.

School doesn't know where to ask for more funds

As of this moment the school doesn't know where to ask for more funds. The government provides through the Department of Education but it cannot suffice the need for the materials.

If we can't produce modules how can we provide education continuously to poor children like Syriel. This is the main reason why I appeal to you.

Please support our school so we can help students like Syriel until we get through this pandemic

As the Principal of the school, it is my responsibility as a leader to find ways to continuously educate the children for I believe that it is only in education that people be released from the bond age of ignorance. It is only in education where everyone will be provided with long life learning skills which is essential to everyone to meet the challenges of everyday life. Thank you so much for this opportunity.
