Help people living in the slums empty their pit latrines

Hello everyone,

I am Richard Sebunya from SMR sanitation group.

We do pit latrine emptying for the people in the slums of Kampala Uganda. Our goal is to do the 5 divisions but we used Kawempe division first.

Slums people are at risk of suffering from cholera

The people living in the slums of Kampala Uganda have a problem of their pit latrines that once are filled up they don't have where to go but instead resort to putting the faeces into polythene bags and litter it on the streets of the slums.

Since in the slums there's no access to running water this limits them from having toilets and moreover these are people who can't afford having toilets but rather pit latrines which get filled up easily and due to much crowding there's no space for digging new ones.

This puts the lives of the people living in the slums at a risk of suffering from cholera which leads to deaths.

Support us to buy protective gears and vehicles

But SMR group comes in to help by emptying these pit latrines manually by use of protective gears, burrels, hooks and buckets and a team of volunteers and then transported to the dumping site. And these latrines can be used again.

We request for support of $1,400 USD and this money will be used to buy more protective gears, burrels, facilitation of volunteers, dumping fee, and also buying a tricycle motor bike to help us in the transportation of the waste.
