Help me overcome depression:support my poultry farm.

Hello everyone, 

My name is Irene Mirriam, a 35 year old mother of 1 residing in Kenya. I have a Masters degree in International development from University of Westminster- London.  

My journey

Until October 2019, I was financially dependent through working with an international NGO that supports small scale farmers in East Africa. However, I was diagnosed with clinical depression and had to leave my 9 to 5 job. As part of my recovery journey, I started a poultry business from my savings mid 2020 where I rear hens for egg production. This had been going well enabling me to support myself and family during this pandemic

Financial difficulties

Unfortuately I lost my new flock (800 birds) to newcastle disease in February 2021.Being one not to give up, I used my last savings and brought in another 600 chicks as seen in this photo. 

This will take 5 months to lay. However, this means that I need more capital to buy feeds and vaccinate the flock for the next 5 months before I can start selling eggs for income. Due to unemployment and lack of tangible collateral, it has been difficult accessing any form of bank financing.

How I will use the funds

1000US dollars will enable me buy feeds and vaccinate the flock until point of lay when I can start getting an income from egg sales. 

The growth period is the most financially draining since starter feeds are expensive. Through this funding, I will also be able to secure livelihood for my family since this is the only income generating project I have going. With your help I will be able to get back on my feet and enhance my productivity in the family and society.
