Hello everyone,

My name is Irene Akiko Iida, I am Nikkei Mexican-Japanese and I live in Mexico City. I am a creator and stage performer; founder and director of the Multidisciplinary Theater Company "Akikompanía".

I have a Master's degree in traditional Japanese Hanayagui dance, as well as several international awards and recognitions. I belonged to the Takarazuka Company of Japan for 13 years and I participate in the Company "Ciertos Habitantes" among other things.

In rescuing the "Juan, el Momotaro", a children's musical play

Last year my company was going to premiere the children's musical play "Juan, el Momotaro" which I produce and direct, but as a result of the Covid pandemic that has affected the whole world, it was impossible for us to premiere it, and since the theater is performed in person, we had no choice but to adapt to the conditions of the new normal, so we decided to film it.

Even though this has generated new expenses as well as delays, we are not discouraged and we will do it focused on the fact that this way the premiere and its exhibition can be worldwide. Help us make this a reality for the summer vacations.

The process of "Juan, el Momotaro" filming

I inform you that as of today the filming stage has concluded satisfactorily, thanks to the facilities and support granted by the Sistema Nacional de Teatros de la Ciudad de México and the Daruma Restaurant. But we still have pending the post-production and payment to the filmmakers which will cost us $12,000 dollars (twelve thousand US dollars).

Thus we invite you to support and not let our theater die.

Synopsis of the play:

The play is based on the legendary Japanese tale "Momotaro"; the boy born from a peach tree who faced evil, with the help of a dog, a monkey and a swallow as symbols of loyalty, wisdom and courage.

In this new version, Juan is a Mexican Nikkei who suffers from Bullying. One night at his Japanese grandfather's house, the boy would have a revealing dream in which he himself would be Momotaro.
