Let's fight the herceptin

Hi everyone,

I am Donna Louise Santos, a joyful and friendly person, and a working mom of 3. Last June 20 20 I was diagnosed with Stage 2B Breast Cancer. This was the most heartbreaking news I have received. All I did that time was to listen and follow what my surgeon advised me to do to prevent the cancer from spreading.

She informed me that I needed to undergo MRM - Modified Radical Mastectomy immediately as well as to request for additional laboratories related to my last biopsy. We requested for the ER, PR and HER2 tests. Few weeks passed; the MRM was a success. Unfortunately, we got the tests results and came back I was Her2 positive. I just cried. Even my surgeon was saddened by the news. She referred me to an oncologist to discuss my treatment plan. While I was in the hospital, bed ridden for days I was able to meet my oncologist and she mentioned we needed to be prepared as being HER2 positive is the most expensive cancer treatment. Plus, it is the most aggressive type of cancer and the one that easily spreads out.

My treatment plan goes:

- 8 chemotherapy sessions

- 16 anti-Herceptin drugs

- Radiotherapy

Luckily, all the hospital bills and expenses were covered by our health card. I was able to start my chemotherapy session last August 6th and we also looked for another facility that can accommodate my needs on a cheaper value. By October 29, my 5th session will include the anti-Herceptin meds which will costs PHP 44,000 per session - meds alone (this is the trastuzumab which is 11,000 per vial).

My health card's limit is almost maxed out and might be able to cover 2-3 sessions of this targeted chemotherapy. I will be needing a total of 16 sessions.
