Hi everyone! My name is Velache Coker and I was born in Moyamba Town, Sierra Leone. As a kid I wanted to become a professional footballer but in the end, I decided to become an entrepreneur.

How I got the idea of developing an agribusiness

In Sierra Leone, 58% of our employment sectors comes from farming mainly smallholder farmers but yet still we can’t feed our growing population. Smallholder farmers are the backbone of the rural economy in developing countries, most of these smallholder farmers are poor and food insecure and they live on less than $2 a day. According to our last census, 3.2 million Sierra Leoneans lacks food and 60% of our population is living below the poverty line and we have over a million farmers in the country.

Access to real-time information about the climate, farming technology, farming education, financing, and the market is a big challenge for smallholder farmers in the rural area, and this often leads to under-production and post-harvest loss.

Canaan Farm was founded in 2017 to help fight against food insecurity by elevating smallholder farmers out of poverty. Canaan Farm is an agric-tech company that is creating endless opportunities for smallholder farmers to access real-time information and technology, we are elevating smallholder farmers from poverty by solving market need with a unified and complete solution for managing crops from the preparation of soil to the final consumer.

What is Canaan Farm?

Canaan Farm Limited is a bridge to fill the gap between smallholder farmers in rural areas and consumers in the city. We are building a user-friendly e-commerce website that enables smallholder farmers to sell their products and once the deal is done, we offer a delivery service. On this page, the consumer from the cities and rural areas can buy the products that need with no need to travel or move from home.
