World Health Organization (WHO) defines coronavirus as a large family of viruses found in both animals and humans. When infected, it causes illnesses ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS).
On the other hand, a novel coronavirus (CoV), also known as 2019-nCoV is a new strain of coronavirus that has not been previously identified in humans. The first outbreak was reported in Wuhan, China last December 2019.
The 2019-nCoV causes respiratory disease and can be transmitted from person to person, usually after close contact with an infected patient. As of early February 2020, there have been more than 17,000 confirmed cases globally – 99% of which are in China, and 362 mortalities in 2 months.
Everyone around the globe is being advised to take care of their health by doing the following:
• Frequent hand washing with soap and water, and hand rub with alcohol.
• Social distancing about 1 meter (3 feet) away between yourself and other people, especially those who are currently sick. When going out, it is highly advised to wear a protective mask.
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth. If possible, wear protective gloves and dispose them after use.
• If you have fever or cough, or having difficulty breathing, seek medical assistance immediately. Disclose to your health care provider your travel history or any person close to you who have previously travelled to and from China and who has respiratory symptoms.
Airfunding has dedicated this project to get donations for the following supplies needed in Wuhan and Hubei:
• Face masks
• Protective gloves
• Sanitizing products
Funds collected will be directly sent to Hubei Charity Foundation, an organization designated by the Chinese government to receive donations on ground. Click Support to start donating today.
