The case of Ricardo, who perceives the world as a whisper

Ricardo is a 15-year-old teenager who suffers from congenital deafness in both ears. Ricardo lives in Chinkayllapa, a community of 60 families dedicated to herding llamas and alpacas, in addition to growing four types of tubers, which are the basic resource for his survival.

Given the conditions of its geographical location at 3,800 meters above sea level in the province of La Unión, in the department of Arequipa, the health services and the family's economic condition have prevented him from treating this problem and, as a consequence, from developing his studies normally. Until now.

For this, I, Rocío Reyes, a social work volunteer in the province, was attending an emergency in the same community to which Ricardo belongs. in which there is a group of 10 children with different ailments, who were transferred to the city of Arequipa to receive the correct evaluation and medical care at the Dutch Peace Social Clinic.

In this institution Ricardo was evaluated and the diagnosis was encouraging since he applied for the use of hearing aids in both ears. However, the cost of each hearing aid is $1,500.00 dollars, an unattainable amount for parents whose economy works through bartering, and who also have to support 5 children, among whom Esmeralda also suffers from deafness.
