Knowledge and flavors of domestic workers in Medellín

Hello everyone,

My name is Juliana Gómez, I am a cook and I am currently doing my degree work to opt for the title of anthropologist at the University of Antioquia with the research project: "Knowledge and flavors of the domestic employees of the Suramericana neighborhood, Medellin" with an emphasis on participatory action.

Medellin is a city with high migration of women who find their only job option in domestic work. Within their work, cooking is a daily activity where they display traditional and popular knowledge typical of their regions of origin that is articulated with the knowledge acquired in the houses where they work.

We seek to collect funds for the realization of 5 workshops where they themselves will teach the classes and teach their companions preparations typical of their regions of origin and of their authorship. The funds will be invested in the ingredients for the classes and in subsidizing their transportation to the place where the workshops will be held. These workshops benefit them and our culinary culture as it is a way of keeping it alive by giving you to women who have been little recognized as carriers of essential knowledge and flavors in the daily, popular and traditional culinary culture of the city of Medellin.

Since the workshops are scheduled for October, we require the money by the end of September. I really appreciate your support and your reading time and interest in the project.
