SEXUAL AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH EDUCATION AMONG YOUTH

Hello everyone,

The project name will be Sexual and Reproductive Health Education and Awareness among the Adolescent Youth (SRHEAY) Project in Kinoni Sub-County. It will be implemented by Baklim Foundation a registered non-profit and community based organization having its mission “to work with and through individuals and communities to improve on the economic health and social well-being of the rural and urban poor communities in Uganda”. The total cost of the project will be $8,849 USD equivalent to UGX 33,628,000 (thirty three million six hundred twenty eight thousand shillings only).

The project area has a large number of adolescent youth (school dropouts and students in secondary) faced with a lot of Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) challenges such as; lack of information to handle menstrual hygiene and materials to use during menstrual periods especially the girls. This has left many youth in the area to become culprits of unwanted pregnancies, early marriages, STIs and school dropouts in the project area thus raising the call for the need of this project.

The direct project beneficiaries will be 1,500 youth (300 school dropouts and 1,200 Secondary school students). Indirect beneficiaries will sum up to 6,000.

The project goal is “to help 1,500 adolescent youth access SRH information in Kinoni Sub County” This project is set to achieve the following objective; to help the 300 school dropouts to know how cope up with life outside school without getting involved in bad habits, to provide SRH information to 1,200 secondary school students, and to reduce the rate at which the Adolescent Youth in Kinoni Sub County are acquiring diseases such as sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) and HIV/AIDS.

Monitoring and Evaluation of the project will be done quarterly. Assessment tests will be given to the trainees four times during project implementation from where Evaluation will be done in order to find out whether they were able to understand what they were being trained about. Reports about project progress and sustainability will also be written and will be sent to different organizations and the project funders, In addition, project Follow-up will also be done during and after the project duration by the project staff through monitoring the formulated clubs both in schools and the entire community in order to determine the project success and sustainability.

The sustainability of the project will be due to a combination of a number of factors, most importantly, youth leaders from the project area will be trained in a way of helping their communities to come of out adolescent challenges. There will be training of trainers sections during project implementation and this will aid in project sustainability because these trainers will also train other youth adolescents during and after the project duration. More so, from the trained groups clubs will be formed in both schools and outside communities from where members will be able to give testimonies in their communities about the project impact. This will be important for the project continuity even after its time.
