We need to grow for the prevention of Chilean fires

"Imagine a rural community surrounded by beautiful natural landscapes, where goat herding is not only an economic activity, but also a wildfire prevention tool."

This is the reality of Buena Cabra, a business that emerged after a devastating forest fire that affected the vicinity of our area in 2017. We investigated, trained and today we are an ecological and effective alternative to prevent the spread of forest fires in Chile. We were inside the Santa Ana mega fire of the year 2023, the work of our goats protected us and helped reduce the spread of the flames.

Our mission is simple but crucial: use grazing goats to create natural firebreaks that decrease fire-susceptible biomass. In addition, by being an alternative to the use of toxic herbicides, polluting machinery and dangerous burning, we are also contributing to the health of people and biodiversity.

But to achieve our goals we need your help. We are looking to raise $1,500 USD to buy equipment that will allow us to close perimeters with mobile electric mesh (solar), in other properties and protect the goats from predatory animals and prevent them from advancing to other places. We also want to generate a salary for our neighbors who want to work with us.

With the funds we raise, our goal is to implement the initiative and position ourselves as a pioneer company in the ecological prevention of fires, carry out the fire prevention service with the use of herds of goats in the creation of firebreaks at the community level and regional to any person or company that wishes to prevent forest fires. In addition, we will train local farmers in grazing techniques with goats and we will educate the community in the prevention of forest fires through herbivorous management.
