Access to Land for Ecological Restoration - Bridging Knowledge to Regenerate Mother Earth

Hello everyone,

We are a Colombian family, Carlos Duque Rios, Amelia, and our son León. We live in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta and are dedicated to supporting processes of biological regeneration and restoration of ecosystems affected by agrochemicals and monocultures. Our goal is to purchase a 3-hectare land to build our home, plant a food forest and native tree species, and install a laboratory for the restoration of poisoned soils.

The Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta region holds significant ecological and cultural importance. We aim to establish a laboratory that helps restore soils impacted by livestock farming and the use of agrochemicals in monocultures. Our proposal integrates traditional knowledge from the spiritual authorities of the Kogui people with academic knowledge from university research groups.

Our project addresses the challenge of biological regeneration and seeks to improve ecosystem conditions and quality of life in the region. We believe in caring for the Earth from our home, as a family. We want to return to the notion of caring for the land instead of exploiting it, honoring ancestral forms of stewardship while recognizing scientific research processes that enhance living conditions.

To achieve this, it is essential to build our home as a central point for caring for Mother Earth. We aim to create a space that promotes healing and reconnects us with the Earth as our home, our place of life. This will allow us to establish sustainable daily relationships, cultivate a family garden as a seedbed, and maintain a nursery for regeneration, including mangroves for coastal areas associated with water bodies that nourish the region, as well as fruit trees and endangered forest species.
