Feeding Program Grade 7 Students in Buanoy NHS Philippines

Hello everyone,

I am Venus Emperatris Macam. I am a high school teacher in a public school in the Philippines, particularly in the province of Cebu.

Quite a number of our students are really poor. Our town may be industrialized, but there are still a lot of families below poverty line. A number of students in our school live in remote barangays, and they come to school by foot. Because of the number of students our school catered to, the classrooms are not enough. The school adopt the shifting schedule. So morning classes start at 6:00 in the morning. Thus, some of our students leave home before the sun is up without breakfast. Every start of the school year, the school conducts procedure that determines each child's BMI, and quite a number are really underweight, or undernourished.

And it is also a fact that we have a number of students who are less performing in class.

With this situation, as a teacher, i feel that i have to do something, aside from teaching them daily academic lessons.

I used to do feeding in my classroom from my personal resources, but i simply have limited fund.

I wish to reach out to more students and see of providing them decent and healthy breakfast would inspire them more to perform better in school.

I wish to start with 20 students from the grade 7, and hopefully if i would see significant results of the program, i could expand to the higher grade levels.

Initially, I projected a budget of 50 pesos for every breakfast for every child, making one thousand pesos for day.

There would be 120,000 pesos for the duration of 6 months. But if i would get your support i can have the program throughout the school year.
