Story
Hi! I'm JP Chan, currently a full-time student maintaining my scholarship in the Philippines, while looking after our family dogs. I'd like to say we come from a fairly-average income bracket family relative to the country, but we also still live on a day-to-day basis as we mainly rely on my older siblings to keep us afloat.
Here's a link to the original post wherein I shared Bonnie's story, but I'll also write a gist below:
https://www.reddit.com/r/DogAdvice/comments/15q27nf/got_home_after_a_week_and_parents_hired_a/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=1
So story time:
We had to leave our home in the province for a while as we had some errands to do in the city.
Since we had little choice, we had to hire one of our "kasambahays", or basically one of our past househelpers, a lady in her 60s to look after our dogs. Though we hired them before with some minor problems after, this time we were unfortunately greeted with Bonnie's eye condition when we came back from the city. I was really bummed out as they failed to communicate with us on what really happened.
Regardless, even though I want to bring my furbaby to the vet, my parents are largely skeptical of it since they're afraid that they won't be able to cover the costs. I had to ask online on what my course of action should be, thus my post in reddit.
Fortunately I was at least able to convince my parents to at least buy some antibiotics for Bonnie. Her condition isn't worsening for now and she's thankfully still frisky, but her eyes still look quite critical.
After researching for a while, I was also able to get in touch with a Vet through an accessible online consultation.
Since it's only online, the vet said how everything is still in the air. They mentioned several possible infections, such as demodectic mange, a food allergy reaction, or distemper. They also tried to prescribe some general temporary meds, but mentioned how it isn't super finalized yet since Bonnie's condition can't be entirely concluded without actual lab tests.
In case it is distemper, the vet mentioned how the price range for treatment can vary from 5000-10000 pesos (around 100 to 200 USD). That's only for the meds; tests and services are still to be included.
I'd really like to work for it to pay for the costs, but jobs aren't super accessible in our remote area, along with the fact it's also pretty hard to find one while your still an undergraduate here in the Philippines. I'm also studying hard to maintain my scholarship. It's pretty hard to think straight when my anxiety is still high for my dogs.
Though it feels really bad to ask for financial help, I'm afraid I really have little options. I hope some of you with the kindness of your heart can help treat Bonnie.
I am also looking into loans, and planning to just pay it off with the amount from your help in thus fundraiser. I'll be sure to put up receipts and updates once it happens.
In case I do reach the goal, I do plan to donate the leftover amount to one of the animal shelters I volunteered in a few months ago. I really do love animals, so rest assured I'll try to pay it back to them.
I would be happy if you could use the [Help by sharing] button to share about my project!
