Little Brody needs Spinal Cord Surgery

Meet little Brody a 29 Month old true warrior and joyful soul from Kwa-Zulu Natal South Africa who was diagnosed with C.H.A.R.G.E SYNDROME in 2021!

C.H.A.R.G.E SYNDROME is a disorder that affects many areas of the body of which Brody had Choanal atresia and Congenital abnormalities along with Horseshoe Kidneys resulting in only having 30% kidney function of the left side (2021), with Grade IV Vesicoureteral Reflux and Hydro nephrosis & Hydroureter.

Over the last 2 year Brody had spent more than 60% of his life in Hospital, fighting life threating recurring bacterial infections and has undergone multiple major surgeries.

At 18 Months old Brody had less than 10% Kidney function on the left and had his Horseshoe kidney separated and his left Kidney removed in Dec 2022.Little Brody has been living in absolute agony the last 9 months with Constant Itching, Infections, Constipation, Severe abdominal pain & Muscle cramps. On the 17th of July 2023 he was admitted again due to an infection and severe pain, where they discovered he has a cyst on his Right Kidney, an Inguinal Hernia, a Neurogenic Bladder and multiple issues in his spine leading to a diagnosis of Type II Caudal Regression Syndrome.

After seeing the Neurosurgeon Brody was diagnosed with Sacral Spina Bifida without hydrocephalus, Benign Neoplasm of Spinal cord and Tethered Cord Syndrome.

Brody now needs to undergo Spinal cord Surgery to have his Tethered cord untethered to prevent further damage to his bladder, Kidney and lower body function.

Without this surgery Brody could lose complete function of his lower body. Brody has 2 concerning Neoplasms (Tumors) in his Spine that needs to be looked at during the surgery as this could cause his spinal cord to Tether again. Once his spinal cord has been untethered, the Urologist will assess his Neurogenic Bladder to check for any improvement after 2 months with his bladder function, Due to Brody only having 1 “Precious” Horseshoe Kidney, we need to protect his kidney. Brody currently has No bladder function control, his bladder does not empty out completely, and this is what is causing the recurring Infections!

Unfortunately, in June 2023 after being a Loyal dedicated Employee for 4 years Mom’s Employer had to shut the door. Without mom’s salary they are struggling to keep Brody on His Hospital Plan and they are not able to afford Brody’s monthly script medication! On top of still trying to pay off Brody’s outstanding medical Bills.

Although his family greatly value their privacy, they acknowledge the trying journey that lies ahead and find themselves in need of compassionate contributions to support their baby Boy.

Due to multiple complex conditions, Brody needs to be seen and be managed by multiple Specialist on a Monthly basis, All tests , treatments, and consultations outside of Hospital are not covered as Brody is only on a Hospital plan.

Your Support will help his parents cover the shortfall cost of Baby Brody’s Spinal cord Surgery and specialist Consultations after the surgery.
