Profile of gender violence in Ecuador

The PAKARINA YUYAYLLAPAK Foundation, domiciled in Ecuador, is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to contribute to the implementation of sustainable development, the conservation of ecosystems and biodiversity... prioritizing sustainable development, the defense of collective rights and of nature under the principles of social and gender equity.

The objective of the project is to determine the cause-effect relationships of gender violence in Ecuador, by profiling the social actors involved in this social phenomenon.

Gender violence is a problem worldwide that affects millions of women, girls and adolescents. In Ecuador, this social problem is seen with the most dramatic and harsh form of gender violence, femicide. Along with this negligible result of patriarchal violence in today's society, there is also human trafficking for sexual exploitation, domestic violence, violence in higher education, and the gender wage gap.

In Ecuador the number of femicides has alarming figures, between 2014 and October 2023, 689 femicides were recorded, according to the Ministry of Women and Human Rights.

For this reason, The Pakarina Foundation Yuyayllapak, seeks to develop a project that allows determining the psychosocial profile of the actors involved in said phenomenon, that is, through a series of methodologies, it will seek to psychologically profile both victims and perpetrators, as well as locate the social patterns that influence the different types of gender violence.

From this research we will seek to determine the cause-effect relationship of gender violence and social structures, to finally propose short, medium and long-term structural solutions to confront this important problem.

The total amount for the development of the project is 20 thousand dollars.

The funds raised will be used for the development of methodologies, the hiring of specialists in psychology and to prepare a questionnaire to profile those involved in the issue of gender violence.
