Please help me fund my top surgery ??☁️??

My name is Jesse Barlow, I am a 23 year old Transgender man and LGBTQI+ Activist. My chest is the main trigger of my crippling dysphoria and physical and social discomfort. It’s something that impacts my daily life negatively as well as my self confidence. After 4 years of waiting to gain access to hormone replacement therapy, I finally had my first shot of testosterone in February 2019 (after a psychiatrist assessment and appointments).

I am from Cape Town, South Africa. A country where government considers gender affirming medical care as non essential and considers gender affirming surgery as “cosmetic/plastic” surgery. Due to this factor, surgery is not covered by medical aid or insurance companies.Only one gender affirming surgery is performed per year by the public health system through an LGBTQIA+ NGO (Triangle Project). Making the waiting list for surgery through the public health system, 25 years long. So going privately is the only realistic option.

The total amount needed to cover my surgery is R70 000 (ZAR) which translates to 4 098 USD, excluding my travel and lodging due to my surgeon being in Lesotho (a different country in SA). I am covering this myself by selling my poetry online. I would have been able to cover more of the amount myself if it weren’t for the COVID-19 pandemic, which has kept me from my job for about 5 month and will unfortunately continue to for the foreseeable future. 

I hope to accumulate the necessary amount before December 2020, in order to recover before I return to university in February 2021.

The collected funds will go solely to my top surgery cost. Literally every single contribution brings me one step closer to my goal and feeling comfortable and free in my own body. Love and light to you all?
