JUNIOR LIFESAVING SCHOLARS PROGRAM

WHERE-WHAT-WHO

Sorsogon Province is located at the heart of the Philippines, with 336 kilometers of shoreline bounded by the Pacific Ocean in the east and the West Philippine Sea in the west. Thus, as one of tourism destinations, the Sorsogon Lifesaving Opportunities (SOLO) Project desires to bridge the gap between the lack of competent lifesaving workforce/frontliners in the beach environment, and ensuring the safety and welfare of its guests and the general public.

WHY-WHEN-HOW

This fundraiser, titled JUNIOR LIFESAVING SCHOLARS PROGRAM is intended quarterly for the three-times-a-year (March, June, and October) recruitment, training, and placement of underprivileged youths, ages 11 to 21, to become employable community lifeguards and be furnished to selected tourism sites of Sorsogon Province whom are frequented both by local and foreign tourists, for purposes of zero-drowning incidents.

The fund is likewise raised to sustain the acquisition of required equipment and materials for lifeguarding and supply of standard lifeguard uniforms for these underprivileged youths, transportation and other human resources cost.

Among others, quarterly on three-times-a-year basis, it shall be used for the following:

- lifeguard tryouts for youth-recruits from selected municipalities of Sorsogon Province;

- training and international certification of candidate-lifeguards, and for other related-trainings; and

- purchase of standard lifeguard uniforms and acquisition of equipment and materials such as rescue tubes, rescue boards, and others.
