I want to help my brother undergo Retina-Optic nerve surgery

Nicholas Bugembe is a Ugandan civil servant, aged 34 whose eyesight has made it hard for him to report on duty for the last 3 years. He is a professional Telecom Engineer whose work requires him to be on computer most of the time yet his sight can no longer make this possible. In 2014, Nicholas was diagnosed with a rare auto-immune disorder called Behcet’s syndrome. This gradually affected his eyesight and it worsened when he got a very severe attack in May 2017 which almost left him blind. He has since been struggling to restore his eyesight in vain and the disorder is in its advanced stages.

Earlier, he underwent systemic immuno-therapy treatment in 2015 & early 2016. Furthermore, in 2019, he also underwent a cataract surgery for both eyes that were severely damaged at ASG Eye Hospital in Uganda. However, no substantial improvement was registered and he’s now almost blind. He is currently on lifelong treatment and his regimen is as follows;  

 Tacrolimus 5mgs 5*2 @ 6$ per day Prednisoline 20mgs tablets which costs 1$ per daily dosage. Methyl prednisoline 75mgs @ 68$ per dose Rituximab @ 2600$ (annually) 

Consequently, this treatment has left Nicholas financially depleted and unable to afford further treatment yet he has to continue since it’s a chronic disease. Worse still, his earnings have been drastically affected since he is no longer able to work yet continues to spend huge amounts on daily treatment.

In order to have his condition controlled, Nicholas has been recommended for a retina – optic nerve surgery and continued immuno-therapy treatment which will be carried out in Turkey at a cost of 24,000$. This will cover surgery costs as well as air ticket. It is believed that when the surgery is carried out, he will be able to return on his duties and live a normal life.

It’s upon this background that Nicholas is appealing for financial support in order to undergo eye surgery.
