Help me boost my career and fight violence!

I am Abril Mondragón, Mexican, actress, activist, workshop leader and forerunner of the artistic and cultural traditions of my region.

I was born in a community called Arcelia, in the state of Guerrero, very close to the Sierra Madre del Sur and the Balsas River, one of the largest rivers in the country. I was born in orange and red lands, among corn, parota trees, mud and mezcal. I have always deeply identified with these lands, with my roots, with my grandparents, with the history (s) that preceded me. I have identified so much that that is why I decided to be an actress, the first artist in the family, because I fervently believe in the transformative power of the performing arts. The theater and traditional music of my town saved my life and I believe that they are tools to combat the violence that has been increasing in my town and throughout the country.

Arcelia although she is distinguished by its traditional music and dance, it is also known for drug trafficking, poverty and machismo that have been increasing in recent decades. The more I prepared educationally, the more I realized the deep problem that exists in my town and the hard work that must be done so that the new generations can live a dignified life, without fear or death.

That is why I have now decided to continue preparing myself, specializing my work in gender violence, since both the theater and my own experiences have led me to that reflection where I have questioned, questioned and confronted myself. Where I have realized that a dialogue is needed within families, in schools, at work and in common spaces, so that we can become aware of the violence that we have exercised and / or of which we have also been victims and Thus, with dialogue, openness, support and emotional restraint we can eradicate it.

There is a master's degree in Power and society from the gender issue, at the National University of Rosario, Argentina. Since I read the study program I felt that I should be there, I felt that my place was in that space, that my preparation had to follow that path.
