Help to buy the equipment needed for the Mahon Training Center that were damaged by the floods in April 2021.

Hi everyone!

My name is Jose and I am a founder of the Many Hands Foundation. I am 35 years old and I have a master’s degree in Education Management and I studied electronic engineering. In 2015 I decided to found Mahon Training Center to empower the unprivileged youth from Timor Leste.

About Mahoon Training Center in Timor Leste

MAHON Training Center is a non-formal school that was established in 2015 with the objective of providing life skills and technical vocation training for marginalized children and youth in Dili and two other municipalities in Timor-Leste. A total of more than 9,000 children and youth have graduated at MAHON Training Center in various courses such as English, Computer, Office Administration, Basic Finance, Small Businesses, horticulture, pisciculture, and silviculture.

Mahoon Training Center in Timor Leste - a place to empower the unpriviliged youth

A 57% of the marginalized youth are currently unemployed, and with little or no skills which makes it hard for them to find a job and to integrate into society. We created MAHON Training Center to give these children more opportunities and to reduce the number of marginalized youth that are currently unemployed in Timor Leste.

There are vocational centers in Timor-Leste but is still hard for those unprivileged youth living in remote areas to get access to them. The official training centers are located only in Dili, but not in other areas.

We offer a non-formal education for marginalized children and youth in Dili that can't get into the official training and we send the graduates to do some internships in different institutions in the public and private sectors so they can get job experience to apply for jobs. Most of them get jobs or start their own business after they finish the training.

What do we need the money for

On April 4th 2021, we got a natural disaster and many equipment and materials were destroyed because of the floods. On April 4th, 2021, Timor-Leste faced a huge flooding disaster that damaged several infrastructures, 41 people died and 36,000 people lost their houses and became IDPs in the country.

MAHON Training Center's facilities were damaged and 13 computers, two projectors, 4 office desks, 2 digital cameras, and 1 photocopy machine got broken and the flood raised up to the training center's hall. All these damages haven't been repaired due to the MAHON's financial capacity.

Through this proposal, MAHON would like to raise the funds to replace and recovery from this crisis situation.
