My Goals and Dreams for Education

I have been following projects on Airfunding for some time now and I see incredible causes that deserve support like “Let's Support FEPAST (Ecuador Turner Syndrome Foundation)" (https://www.airfunding.net/project/14954); “Help feed abandoned Filipino street kids for Xmas & beyond” (https://www.airfunding.net/project/30573); and many others. I witness many people getting help to achieve their goals and dreams.

Perhaps my project is irrelevant as a result of the just cause as mentioned above; however, it is a dream that I have dedicated myself to. That is why, I am publishing it on this platform.

Raise Funds To Support My Doctoral Studies

When I decided to take a master's degree at the State University of Montes Claros, I didn't imagine that I would fall in love so much with the academic world -- in particular, with my research project.

My adviser's line of research is Scientific Computing and Systems Modeling, with expertise in Thermoluminescent Dosimetry and Non-Destructive Testing.

My research project contemplates Thermoluminescent Dosimetry, a study area widely used in the development of dosimeters for ionizing radiation and others such as UVA and UVB; and, for archaeological and geological dating. In geology, for example, thermoluminescence is used to examine meteorites and materials originating on the moon. Environmental dosimetry deals with the radiation present in the environment due to the actions of humanity. It is a complex and very interesting area.

The research developed in this area generally involves specialized instrumentation for the characterization and development of new thermoluminescent materials for the applications mentioned above.

In this sense, the projects take place in the form of partnerships with other universities (in this case, federal universities) since few university centers have all the technological apparatus for the development of projects in the area of dosimetry. In Brazil, public policies have not favored the granting of scholarships to researchers, which is an aggravating factor for researchers who try to develop their research in other technological centers.

Thus, in order to study doctorate, I would have to move to another city, an option encouraged by my supervisor. My options are in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro or Pernambuco.

I work 36 hours a week for the state of Minas Gerias, and I would have to give up my job to move to one of these capitals. This fact, at first, would be without remuneration or any amount of money that would allow me to have money for housing, transportation and food during the 4 years of doctorate. This is something that makes me extremely anxious, because I believe that education is the best way to change our realities and create a better world.

Although the possibilities of continuing my education appeared late in my life, I really want to continue with my studies and research. Perhaps in a few years' time I will be able to make a significant contribution to my field of research, or perhaps I will train a researcher who can instruct others to realize their dreams and goals.
