Support the International Project “World Book”

My name is Alena Maskaeva and I am a teacher of English at Lyceum #33 Ivanovo, Russia.

I am a Microsoft Innovative Education Expert and my students take part in many projects.

"World book" Educational project

Since i took a part at Microsoft Innovative Education, This time together with my students, we created a "world book" project.

It is an educational project and the main aim of which is to discuss SDGs through the range of different perspectives and to involve students in 4C competencies – communication, collaboration, critical thinking and creativity.

Students should present the place where they live in and how they solve the problems which are proclaimed by the UN. There are 2 books which are travelling around the world and one of them came to Lyceum #33 from Croatia by DHL some days ago. By the way we are the only school in Russia taking part in this project.

My students are keen on working with the book and the problems we have around us. They are proud of being a part of a global community and such an important project.

The box we have got was more than 7 kilos. Can you imagine how hard the educators and students around the world work?!

On Monday we are finishing the project and have to send the box to the coordinator of this project to Brazil.

I understand my responsibility of taking part in this project and my students and I want the book to be back in Brazil safe.

The price which I need to pay sending it by DHL is 63 thousand roubles, which mean 1000$.

It is incredible for me! To be honest, my salary is 230 $ a month.

I could send it by regular Russian posts but I know many situations when the box is lost. Last time we sent A Christmas box to India and they didn’t get it. Both Russian and Indian posts don’t know where it is. Though I have a track number. Indian students are disappointed because of the loss of the box, either do we. The price is not so expensive there but I don’t trust Russian post.

Today I have meet with Renata Madureira - the founder of the project and we have decided to make our first fundraising to let our students to believe in miracle and to spread the ideas of SDGs around the world.
