CAN QUARANTINED COMMUNITY SURVIVE WITH NO FOOD?

Hello, my name is Lorna Espinosa.

I would like to help people in Davao city in the Philippines to survive because of the covid-19. That is why i make this project if you are willing to help me to support those who are in need.

Lockdown since march 20, 2020

Davao City Philippines has been under Enhanced Community Lockdown since March 20,.2020 and might end on May 15, 2020 depending on later assessment.

A large number of Davao City families now have nothing to eat, not even the staple food rice. They belong to daily wage earners, truck drivers and construction laborers. Everybody stopped working to give way to enhanced community quarantine due to COVID-19 crisis.

Since then people were NOT allowed to work and no regular food supplies came, it made the situation become hard for them because no food supplies.

Last march, I was asked for donations from my fb friends and relatives and started the group "Rice to Shine Davao",

we are sending them rice through friends living within their neighborhood. As the days progress, I realize that much more people are starving than I expected!

Because there are still many people that need help more than we realize around us, we would like to continue our program, and support the people who are in need. The rice fund will be given to the daily wage earners who lost their jobs, the poorest of the poor!

The raised fund will be for purchase of rice or any available staple food

The total collected amount we gather will be used for purchase of rice or any available staple food in case of zero or short rice supply.

I and my friend donors have already given out around 1000 kilos to hundreds of families under an fb group named "Rice to Shine Davao" which I created on March 21,2020.

The city has a fairly large land area. We distribute through volunteers. Those are local people who live within the receiving area because the quarantine rules limit movements of people.

The average family consumes around 1.25 kilo of rice ($1.25) per day. Our goal is to help at least 25 families per day from different locations.
