Manila COVID 19 Lockdown: Support for Tee Boys, Caddies, etc

My name is Lizl Leonardo, a Filipino, residing in Washington, DC..

I made this project to support the workers of Camp Aguinaldo Golf Club, which I frequented when I was in the Philippines earlier this year. This golf club get some impact because of Covid-19.

Three months ago, I decided it's time to finally start learning a sport I've always told myself I'd eventually get to: Golf. One of my closest friends introduced me to Camp Aguinaldo Golf Club.

For two months, I visited that place almost every day. I learned the basics, gained new friends, but perhaps most importantly, got to know several coaches, tee boys/girls, and caddies on a personal level.

Coaches, tee boys/girls, and caddies do not receive a stable income. Instead, they depend mostly on tips from the golfers.

It was only towards the end of the two months that I learned that coaches, tee boys/girls, and caddies are NOT employees of the club. I've been told that this is the case everywhere.

These people do not receive a salary but instead, for the most part, rely on tips from the golfers who use the range or the golf course. For example, for a tee boy/girl to earn $1, he/she must service golfers with 10 buckets of golf balls (1 bucket = 40 balls). Yes, ONE DOLLAR. The rest of their daily wages will come from golfers who choose to give them tips after playing.

Their income is affected because of Covid-19 and Manila Lockdown

Because of the Covid-19 lockdown issued by the Philippine Government on March 15, 2020 these people are not earning anything at all.

While there are government programs in place, the assistance has to go through proper channels before eventually distributed to the workers. It will take time.

Let's help them survive through this pandemic!

This fundraiser aims to support these displaced workers (there are about 100 of them) at the Club by providing them some cash for food/groceries.

I am 10,000 miles away and this is the only way I can think of to help the people who supported me during one of the lowest points of my life (even though they didn't know it!).
