Community outreach for Financial Literacy in the Philippines

Paul Nuqui's journey to championing financial literacy in his community is rooted in his own humble beginnings and the challenges he faced growing up in the Philippines.

Born into a modest family in the outskirts of Metro Manila,

Paul experienced firsthand the struggles associated with limited financial knowledge and resources. His parents worked tirelessly to provide for their family, often living paycheck to paycheck and facing daily financial uncertainty.

Despite the odds stacked against him, Paul was determined to break the cycle of poverty and create a better future for himself and his loved ones. With a thirst for knowledge and a relentless drive to succeed, he pursued every opportunity to educate himself, whether through formal schooling or self-directed learning.

Paul's path was far from easy. He worked odd jobs to support his education, sometimes sacrificing meals to afford textbooks or school fees. Yet, through perseverance and sheer determination, he excelled academically while emerging as a socio-civic community leader within the school’s confines.

It was during his time at university that Paul became acutely aware of the widespread lack of financial literacy among his peers and within his community. Despite their academic achievements, many of his fellow students struggled to manage their finances effectively, leading to debt, financial stress, and missed opportunities. Too many times he saw his friends lose their hard-earned money to blatant scams or fraudulent acts, all due to a general lack of financial knowledge and the inclination to be attracted to “get-rich-quick” schemes. The last straw was when a close friend’s family lost their entire life savings and their home to one such scheme, an incident that would deeply impact him for the rest of his life.

Determined to make a difference, Paul made it his lifelong mission to equip others with the knowledge and skills they needed to achieve financial independence and success. Having been involved with the PesoWise campaign since 2020, Paul has been driven to make a mark not just in the Philippines but throughout SoutheastAsia as well by focusing on a grassroots program keyed in on youth empowerment and education. Through on the ground pro bono workshops, proprietary educational materials, and community outreach in key areas, Paul's campaign seeks to break down barriers to financial literacy and start a virtuous cycle with today’s youth by providing them with the resources they need to build a secure and prosperous future.

Only $20 a month ensures that at least one child will be the beneficiary of quality financial education for the next 6 months. Thanks to your generous support we will be able to change the landscape of financial literacy in the Philippines, one child at a time.
