Assistance for Personal Hygiene Products for Vulnerable Girls - South Africa

Hi everyone,

My name is Dorathy Elisha. I'm a native to Bloemfontein, South Africa and I represent CHAT SA, an acronym that stands for Change Hope and Transformation South Africa. It is a non-profit organisation that works with young, under privileged girls in communities here in Bloemfontein South Africa.

Over the years, we have reached out to girls at Bophelong Rocklands and Batho community here in Bloemfontein, we work closely with the community leaders to reach out to these girls.

Almost all our past projects have been achieved through the support of friends and family members. We do not have other means of funding to support the work we are doing, and we believe that more people would be interested in what we are doing and would love to participate in making a difference in the life of a young girl in need.

South African Girls lack of access to personal hygiene products

Most underprivileged girls in our communities do not have access to sanitary towels and other hygiene products. This has affected their self-esteem negatively and has resulted in their inability to go to school in some cases.

The problem has escalated during this period of COVID-19 as everyone is expected to practice personal hygiene in more stricter manner to stay safe, to stay away from the virus. This poses a threat to most of our girls in disadvantaged communities where food is a problem as well hygiene products.

Our Budget

With the said amount $500 we will be able to reach out to more than 20 girls (between 12-19 years) in one community. We will use the collected funds to purchase all the needed hygiene products that will be packed for the girls.

CHAT SA has come up with a package that contains sanitary towels, soap, sanitizer, toothpaste, toothbrush, roll-on etc. Each girl will receive the package in bags that include sanitary towels and other hygiene products, enough for two months.

We will need the funds by next month, to enable us reach out to our girls during these difficult times of COVID-19 and the lockdown.
