We want to purchase health screening kits for Cambodians

Cambodia Outreach Project is a volunteering program that will be organized by the Students Representative Council (MPP) of UKM Medical Faculty in collaboration with University of Cambodia and Hospital Beyond Boundaries. The program is intended to respond to the call of the UKM Vice-Chancellor who wants high impact programs to be involved by UKM students. Phnom Penh is the capital of Cambodia. It is inhabited by minority groups, Cham which only accounts for 1.6% of Cambodia's total population. 1/3 of the population lives below the poverty level of the country and this makes the ethnic population under economic and social pressures. This factor has been a driving force for us as a student of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, to provide a program that will benefit the Cambodians who are stressed especially health aspect. We cooperate with the Hospital Beyond Boundaries due to HBB itself is a United Nations (UN) recognized program that was founded and led by UKM alumni. In Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, the volunteering program is a unique program for students studying in medicine, emergency medicine, nursing and midwifery. In fact, every year this faculty holds a Health For Malaysia (HFM) volunteer program with the cooperation of the Ministry of Higher Education aims to provide medical services to the residents in the rural area to ensure that every individual gets the proper healthcare treatment.

Our objectives for this project are to rebuild the community in Cambodia in gathering and providing resources and solutions. Besides, we would like to instill volunteerism values and sociological skills among the medical students whose future jobscope directly involves the community and provide a medium for the students to work with different sectors and professional fields to enhance their interpersonal skills, besides giving an alternative perspective in viewing issues.

One of the activities we will do is to organize a health screening program to raise their awareness on health. All the fund we collected from here will be used to buy health screening kits. We hope that you can help us by donating, thank you!
